The Netherland Institute of Ecology (NIOO) is a top research institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). The NIOO-KNAW focuses on fundamental and strategic research into individual organisms, populations, ecological communities, and ecosystems. The mission is to carry out excellent fundamental and strategic research in ecology.

The NIOO-KNAW employs more than 250 people at the location in Wageningen 

The Central Management and Services Department is also situated in Wageningen.

From February 2011 onwards the departments in Heteren and Nieuwersluis can be found at the new location in Wageningen.
