Egg-hormones and personality

Females put hormones in their eggs and this influences the behaviour of their chicks. Females with different personality deposit different amounts of hormones in their eggs. We have collected eggs  from females from the selection lines for different personality. Females were mated with males from both lines. We only took halve of the broods, the other halve has hatched and are tested.

Possible research questions

  • Is the amount of hormones females deposit in their eggs dependent on the male they mate with?
  • Is there an effect of laying order in the amount of hormones deposited in the egg?
  • Does the amount of hormones in eggs resemble the behaviour of the brothers and sisters?
